YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Ye are the light of the world; a city that is set on a
hill cannot hidden” (Mathew 5:14)
In Jesus’ teaching
on the mountain, He tells us that in this sin- darkened world, we are the
partakers of His light. Cambridge online dictionary defines light as ”the brightness that comes from the sun, fire,
or electrical devices that allows
things to be seen”.
Here the brightness does not emanate from material things, rather from Jesus
Christ.
Following the above, we can deduce
that light illuminates gloomy and dark areas. When you switch off the light in the
night you will see nothing. The presence of light brightens the day and sends
thrills into the heart of those around it. When there is light, darkness give
way for it as the two cannot function simultaneously. Its importance cannot be overemphasized;
the radiation that comes from it is simply beautiful.
Now we are being qualified as a light, an
epitome of goodness and blessings in the world. This connotes that in all
ramification our lives are to showcase this glorious substance. “Ye are the
light of the world, a city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden”, Mathew
5:14. I will love you to delve deeply into that scripture, it means a lot.
Being the light of the world, you are
like Christ. The bible says in John 8:12 that; “Jesus spake again to them
saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in
darkness, but shall have the light of life.” As a follower of our Lord Jesus,
you should live and walk like Jesus did. In your office, your colleagues should
be able to differentiate you from the crowd. Your neighbours and family ought
to see the light of humility, peace, charity, patience etc. in your life.
The light of excellence should be
seen in you. By excellence I mean standing out in all your endeavours. (Career,
home, church, school and society at large.) The way and manner you walk around should be
distinctive. Your performance level should be worthy of emulation. You ought to
be so outstanding in such a way that when you step into a place, there should
be this peace which follows light that should engulf people around you.
The bible declares in John 11:10 “but
if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth because there is no light in him”. Anyone who lives in sin cannot shine because
darkness cannot feature where there is light. Sin hinders the outpouring of
God’s presence in the life of an individual. Sin brings shame and reproach; it
cages you from the Joy and peace that comes from God.
Jesus has made you a light of the
world, do not turn to darkness. He loves you. He died on the cross of Calvary
for your sins; He wants you to spend eternity in heaven. While you are at it,
He wants to give you a glorious and amazing life here on earth.
